Cap Construction

When purchasing a wig, one of the most important factors is the construction of the cap. The construction must fit your needs, your wants and your lifestyle. Below you find a comparison chart to help you understand the differences.

Methods of Attachment

Lets talk about attachment methods. Many of our clients wearing full systems require no attachment at all. A full wig or hairpiece is custom fitted for you, adjustments are done by our hair loss technicians to ensure the fit is secure giving you the confidence you need.

There are circumstances where the unit or the client may require attachment; or the client may simply request attachment due to lifestyle or preference. Our team of hair loss specialists are training to assist you in making the decision that works best for you and your lifestyle. This decision doesn’t have to be a commitment and can change with your lifestyle, for example heading on a vacation and want to SWIM, SLEEP and play in your unit we can customize the attachment for your trip.

As a full service hair replacement facility we offer both daily wear and extended wear and can customize the unit and attachment per client. Need more info? Check out the descriptions below on some of the methods.

Tape

Tape is the most common method for both daily and extended wear. Most tapes are double-sided and clear however there are lots of options. Tape is an easier style of attachment as it can be removed at any time and easily re-attached.

As a caution, it can leave a sticky residue that will need to be cleaned. If you’re coming in for services, we will remove this residue for you. If you’re doing this at home, we can educate you on how to properly remove it and provide the supplies needed.

There are many colours and types of tape, and the type you use will depend on your wear, lifestyle and the construction of your hair system. Our hair loss specialist can help you choose the tape that best suits your needs.

Give us a call or schedule an appointment and our team of qualified hair loss technicians can assist you with your tape selection. We also carry a variety of tapes and can ship them directly to you.

Liquid/Bonding Adhesive

Liquid adhesives are also referred to as bonding adhesives and are used for both daily or extended wear. Hair systems that are extended wear are designed to be removed by a trained hair loss technician and are typically attached with a liquid adhesive.

Understanding the factors that need to be taken into consideration when using liquid adhesive – the application process, the dry time and how much to use – will ensure that you are successful in utilizing liquid adhesives. We carry many types of liquid adhesives in the Centre and can ship them directly to you.

Your hair is an investment...caring for it is important

As with your own hair, your hairpiece or wig requires specific care, cleaning and maintenance to keep it looking its best, which is key to its longevity. Following the proper methods and using the appropriate products and tools will keep it looking natural.

Wigs and hairpieces, whether synthetic, heat resistant or made of human hair, require specifically tailored combs and specially formulated hair care products to keep them looking natural and healthy. It is not necessary to wash your hair system or wig daily; however, there are care methods before and after each wear.

There are recommended high-quality specially formulated shampoos, conditioners and styling sprays specific to the different types of hair systems and wigs. We stock a wide range of these hair care products on site and can ship them directly to you.

SYNTHETIC HAIR

SYNTHETIC HAIR

Synthetic Hair

Synthetic hair is made from a variety of very fine plastic or nylon materials, being almost indistinguishable from human hair. Synthetic requires little care and maintenance allowing you to have perfect hair everyday with almost no work. By simply shaking your hair system, the synthetic fibres will restore the wig’s original style.

Some general rules when caring for your synthetic wig:

  • Almost all types of synthetic wigs cannot withstand any direct heat (such as from barbeques or ovens), unless
    they are specified as heat-friendly
  • Synthetic hairpieces cannot be dyed a different colour
  • Synthetic wigs must only be washed using specialized shampoos and conditioners, and brushed with
    specialized combs and brushes
  • Synthetic wigs should only be air-dried on a wig stand

Synthetic Hair Care Tips:

Follow these easy steps when washing your synthetic hair to optimize its longevity. Do not rub or pull the wig while
washing, as it can loosen the strands from the base.

  • Wash every 10 to 15 wears
  • Only wash in cold water
  • Do not rub while washing
  • Spray conditioner 10-12 inches from hair
  • Blot when drying do not squeeze or wring
  • Air dry on a wig stand
  • Do not brush when wet
  • Do not expose the wig to heated styling tools and be cautious when cooking (over a BBQ or stove), as
permanent damage and singeing of the hair fibres will occur
  • Use recommended hair care products specific for synthetic hair
HUMAN HAIR

HUMAN HAIR

Human Hair

There are two types of human hair wigs and hairpieces:

  • Processed Hair: only an artful approach, high-quality chemicals are used to sanitize the hair and strip away colour; as well as, add curl or straighten the hair and then add colour.
  • Remy, or Raw Hair: the premium choice for the most natural-looking hair; when the hair is cut and made into a wig, the follicles are kept in the same direction to reduce tangling and retain a silky quality.
  • Human hair wigs are the best quality hair systems because they are indistinguishable from your own hair. They have a more natural look and feel with the hair – being finer, shinier and softer than their synthetic counterpart.
  • Your styling options are endless when it comes to human hair systems, as they can withstand heat very well. Considering the desirability of the look and feel of real human hair, you and your special someone will love the natural confident you.

Human Hair Human hair wigs are indistinguishable from your own hair. They resemble your biological hair – being finer, shinier and softer than their synthetic counterpart. Your styling options are endless when it comes to human hair systems, as they can withstand heat.

Some general rules when caring for your human hair wig or hairpiece:

  • Human hair systems react to climate the way biological hair does
  • The wig can be reset/restyled after each wash
  • If the hair is dyed, it will oxidize/fade with exposure to sunlight
  • Human hair wigs will get split ends or tear if mistreated by harsh brushing, back combing or overuse of heat styling
  • These systems can be heavier than synthetic wigs

Human Hair Care Tips:

To ensure your human hair system remains healthy and lasts longer, follow these tips when washing it.

  • Before washing the hair, detangle the wig with a specialized wide-toothed comb
  • Only wash the wig in cool water
  • Use a gentle downward motion to avoid tangles
  • Avoid putting conditioner on the roots or base
  • Only use specifically formulated products for processed human hairpieces
  • Let your hairpiece dry on the stand without wringing it, but if pressed for time use a blow dryer’s lowest heat setting and avoid using a firm head device
  • If styling your hairpiece, use heated styling tools at a low heat setting and don’t apply heat for too long
  • When using heat always use a heat thermal spray

It might seem like a lot of attention and care needs to be taken to clean your human hair system, but the quality and look of your hair will make it worth the investment. We recommend coming in once every 6 to 8 weeks to have us care for your system.

HIGH HEAT HAIR

HIGH HEAT HAIR

Heat Synthetic Hair

High Heat fibers allow the flexibility of styling without the cost of human hair. They do however require a specific set of care instructions to maintain their look and feel.

Some general rules when caring for your heat resistant wig:

  • Fiber can tangle and frizz throughout the day due to friction from clothing and body heat. The areas to examine are where rubbing would occur; most commonly will be the ends and the nape area
  • It is important to care for daily especially when it comes to tangling and frizz
High Heat Care Tips:

Follow these easy steps to optimize its longevity. Do not rub or pull the wig while washing, as it can loosen the strands from the base.

  • Spray 3-5 pumps of our detangler daily in the nape and ends of the hair. Ensure conditioner stays away from all hand tied caps
  • Only use the comb or brush recommended; always start at the bottom working your way up
  • Use a professional grade flat iron set at 270-280, section the fiber in 1 inch sections. Spray 2-3 pumps of our thermal spray to protect the fiber from heat. Move the flat iron slowly down each section; following with the recommended comb to smooth. Allow the fiber to cool completely
  • Heat must be applied to this fiber to keep it smooth and should be done daily
