Hair alternatives can provide either a temporary or permanent solution to hair loss. Full Wigs and Partial Systems
There are two methods of constructing a hair replacement:
Hand Tied Base
Each hair is hand tied into a monofilament of polyethylene material. This method creates a very natural look, where the scalp is visible. These pieces can either be custom made or customized (stock). Custom made pieces can require up to eight weeks for completion. These hair replacements are recommended for permanent or short term hair loss, even though they are more expensive than stock wigs. However, stock wigs can be customized for a natural look and fit.
Machine Made Base
This base is constructed of a lace-type material into which wefts of hair is sewn This base is common among stock hair replacements. It is recommended for short-term hair loss. This natural, easy care, economical fiber allows for the purchase of multiple wigs.
Types of Hair Used in Hair Replacements:
HumanHuman hair requires re-colouring every six to twelve months due to sun fade-out. It styles naturally but droops in humid weather requiring regular resetting. Human hair is more expensive than synthetic fiber and is a heavier weight system. It can be air dried or blown dry and styled with curlers or curling irons.Synthetic Modern fibers are virtually indistinguishable from human hair. They incorporate natural tones that do not fade in the sun. These fibers are easily styled and cleaned allowing for simple home maintenance. The disadvantage of synthetic fibers is their sensitivity to excessive heat. It must be washed in cold water and air dried.
Hair Weaves
The use of a temporary attachment that allows you to wear the piece for an extended period of time. (Approximately 3-5 weeks) Available for both men & women.
What is involved in caring for Your New Hair?
Human or synthetic hair replacements are best restyled and re-conditioned by your hair replacement technician. Re-conditioning should take place approximately every eight to twelve weeks. Special wig products (ie: shampoos) will sustain the life of your system. For hygienic reasons, the hair replacement should be washed every eight to ten wearing days. If you choose to wash the hair replacement yourself, proper cleansing techniques can be discussed upon determining the piece best suited to you. Daily minor styling changes can be achieved by using a non-alcoholic mousse, gel or spray. This styling can be rejuvenated by adding a light mist of water.
Head wraps
Most clients prefer alternatives to their hair systems through the use of wraps,hats, turbans and accessories to vary their look in keeping with their comfort level... Colourful scarves, jewelry and classic hats can be fun - so be daring! . These looks are alsolow in cost and high in comfort.
Helpful Hints
Choose cotton or cotton blend scarves as silk and polyester may slip off of your head. Dress up a head wrap with a braid, ribbon, hat or jewelry, or a combination of these.
A soft, small shoulder pad placed on top of the head under the scarf will give height and a more natural look. Large button earrings will draw attention and compliment the look. Try a baseball cap with a ponytail or bangs added.
